What does Poetry do?

Poetry allows us to explore emotions like grief, joy, love and despair. In poetry we can find inspiration, creativity, new ways of thinking, nuance of expression, self-discovery, and that elusive second note, deeper meanings not found at first glance. Poetry allows us to linger on the details, savor every word, find poems within poems. This is all possible in the visual image as well. We can create photographs that evoke feeling, impart meaning, and allow us to linger and savor the elements of an image, much as a poet intentionally chooses each word. This workshop will emphasize the art of moving slowly with a subject to find those lines, colors, movements, and notes that bring you joy, sorrow, euphoria, or a deeper understanding.
